USB-C supporting power banks are relatively new, but out of the ones on the market right now, the Jackery Titan S 20100mAh is by far the best option. It's a quick charging device with three charging ports for simultaneous charging, it's made out of robust aluminum, and has enough capacity to provide your phone or other USB-C device with charge for the whole week.
Jackery easily cracked the top 3 in our recent list of Top 5 Best Power Bank Brands in 2017. So far we’ve only reviewed medium powered Jackery power banks, so today we’ll be taking a look at a bigger unit in this massively popular Jackery Titan S 20100 mAh Power Bank.
Design & Portability
As of today, we’ve reviewed dozens of 20000mAh power banks, yet we’ve never came across one made of aluminum. Jackery’s power banks however are renown for their sturdy aluminum shells and this Titan is no exception to this. Second only to the Zendure A8, this is one of the strongest heavy-powered chargers I’ve seen. You’d think it’d be a lot heavier for its size, but it’s actually not, relatively. With 15.36oz It’s about the same weight as other big boys like the Anker PowerCore II 20000 and the RAVPower 22000mAh.
Size-wise, it’s pretty big, but very reasonable for a 20,000mAh power bank. It measures 5.9 x 3.2 x 0.8 inches and is about the size of a packed long wallet. You definitely won’t fit it in your pocket, but it’s greatly portable for in a backpack, shoulder bag or even a purse.
Besides the aluminum casing, the other reason why this Jackery Titan stands out over other power banks is its the ability to charge via USB-C. It has two regular USB ports, and a third port for USB-C. This new charging technology is still rarely seen on power banks but is getting more and more popular as the big brands realize USB-C is becoming the standard for modern phones. An advantage of USB-C is it can draw more power than regular USB, resulting in quicker charge times. And since the port is also used to charge the Powerbank, it also accounts for quicker recharging of the power bank itself.
The other two charging ports on the Titan can be used to charge just about any USB device you can think of. Phones, tablets, Kindles, headphones, GoPros and even the new Nintendo Switch. One of the two USB ports supports QC 2.0 (Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0), which allows you to charge your phone at super speeds, provided that your phone is QC enabled. You can check here if your phone supports QC 2.0 to take advantage of this useful feature.
The Jackery Titan also supports pass through charging. However, as you’ll be using the USB-C port for charging the Titan, during pass-through charging you’ll only be able to charge two devices in it instead of three. Nonetheless, it’s still an incredibly convenient feature.
All charging ports on this model can supply a max output of 3A, which is higher than the 2.4A we usually see. However, I’m not entirely sure if this isn’t just a marketing ploy. Most devices you’ll be charging won’t draw more than 1 to 2A. And the smart charging technology disallows the power bank to use it’s full 3A most of the time anyway. Which is a good thing, as charging a smartphone with 3A of power would harm your battery’s life. The high maximum output might prove useful when charging via USB-C and when charging small laptops though.
With 20100mAh of battery capacity this Titan is good for around six to seven average smartphone charges. This makes it an ideal device for long commutes, or maybe on campus if there are just too few outlets available. Whatever your situation is, the Jackery Titan makes sure to provide you with about a week of full charges for your phone.
Recharging the Jackery Titan takes about 10 – 12 hours if you’re using a USB-C cable in a power adapter. It can take longer depending on the amperage of the power adapter you’re using.
Slightly more expensive than other 20,000mAh range power banks, but even just the USB-C feature makes the Jackery Titan well worth its price. On top of that you’re getting a greatly versatile device with simultaneous charging of up to three devices, including a QC 2.0 port, a robust aluminum shell, and amazing reliability thanks to Jackery’s brand quality and long warranty.
