TP-link is mostly known for their network equipment like network cards and USB Wifi connectors. In this review we’ll be taking a look at TP-Link’s TL-PB10400 Power Bank.
Design and portability
The TL-PB10400 has a sturdy design and is a bit heavier than other power banks. For a double slot power bank it’s nice and compact and it measures at 3.5 x 1.7 x 1.7 inches. However, it’s cuboid shaped and doesn’t feel as comfortable in your pocket as flatter power banks that fit in your pocket like a smartphone. It’s a minor nuisance but still worth mentioning. The power bank is more suitable to carry with you in a bag than in your pocket.
The color combination of mostly white with light blue give it a clean look and TP-link has definitely put some thought into the aesthetics of their product.
Features
Like a lot of power banks the TL-PB10400 is equipped with a flashlight which is of a nice and bright white-blue color.
It has a battery indicator on the side to show how much charge is left, and it comes with a carry pouch so you won’t have to keep it in your pocket, and of course a standard micro USB cable to charge the power bank itself. The downside is that this cable doesn’t come with an adapter, which means you need to either buy your own or charge the power bank via PC or laptop, and that takes a very, very long time.
One of the standout features of the TP-Link TL-PB10400 is the multiple safety protections it has. The power bank has overcharge, overdischarge, overheating, overcurrent, short circuit and overvoltage protection. This means you don’t have to worry about doing any damage to either your device or the power bank, and most important of all, there’s no battery fire or implosion hazard.
Power
The TP-Link TL-PB10400 has 2 USB slots with different amperages; one slot is a 1A charge and the other is a 2A charge. This means you can also charge larger devices who need at least 2A to charge, like tablets and digital cameras. The total power capacity of the power bank is 10400 mAh, enough to charge your smartphone 2 – 5 times, depending on the type of smartphone, or charge your tablet once or twice. Thanks to the dual slots you can charge 2 devices at the same time. However, you won’t be able to charge 2 tablets simultaneously as – like mentioned before – there is only one slot with 2 ampere output. Charging 2 devices at once also means sacrificing charge speed, as the device in the 1A output will charge slower than the other slot.
The big power capacity of the power bank has a downside to it; the TP-link TL-PB10400 takes a very long time to recharge itself. Charging up the empty power bank to full battery status takes more than 7 hours, which is quite long already, and charging it via PC or laptop can even take up to 20 hours or more.
Conclusion
Great power bank for the money. It’s rather cheap, but full of features like the flashlight, multiple safety protection, dual output and ability to charge large devices like tablets and digital cameras. TP-link has done a great job of mixing multiple features with high power and offer it for a very cheap price tag.
