Summary
Same power as an Anker PowerCore 10000, but cheaper, has better looks, and supports pass-through charging. In a nutshell, the RAVPower 10050mAh Portable Charger is simply an excellent value power bank.
- Pocket sized, slides in a jeans pocket easily
- Great value
- Premium looking design
- Pass-through charging
- Only one charging port
When it comes to size/capacity ratio, we’ve always considered the Anker PowerCore 10000 to reign supreme as the single best portable powerbank on the market. However, we’ve recently discovered RAVPower’s Deluxe series which has a similar power bank that might just give the Anker PowerCore 10000 a run for its money. Let’s take a look at it in this review.
Design and Portability
The RAVPower is very compact for a 10.000mAh battery. It is slightly larger than the Anker PowerCore 10000 but only by a slight margin. It measures 3.86 x 2.44 inches and is 0.87 inches thick. It’s also surprisingly lightweight for such a voluminous battery, and extremely portable too. It fits in my jeans and jacket pocket easily without being uncomfortable. And just lke all other RAVPower products, it comes with a stylish mesh pouch to keep it from scratching.
The design of the RAVPower Deluxe is very nice. We have the dark version, which sports a black matte coating and really looks and feels like a premium product. It has a fancy looking LED battery indicator with cool blue lighting and a power button on the middle. In the looks department, the RAVPower 10050mAh definitely wins compared to the duller looking Anker PowerCore 10000.
Features
Like mentioned above the power bank has a round button on the middle of the device to activate the power bank and to check its battery status. The blue LED lights show battery status in 25% increments, just like most power banks.
The RAVPower deluxe has one smart charging port that’s equipped with RAVPower´s famed iSmart technology. It has a max output of 2.4A but finds the ideal current for your device and charges it accordingly. This is becoming the norm for power banks lately but we’ve came across some power banks that weren’t equipped with smartports, so I’m happy to see it on this device.
Another great feature of the RAVPower 10050 is that it supports pass through charging. This is something we don’t see often, not even on high-quality powerbanks like Anker’s. It’s very convenient to charge mobile devices while the powerbank itself is also being charged. Big plus for RAVPower here.
Power
On to the power. 10050mAh is nothing to sneeze at and it charges my iPhone 5 up pretty fast. It charged it fully in just over an hour, which is fairly quick. The battery has enough juice to charge a Samsung Galaxy A5 (2300mAh battery) three times. If you take the compactness of this device in consideration, that’s very impressive.
After doing some testing with a USB amperemeter, the power bank shows to have a measurement of 6800 mAh. Which is not that far off from the Anker PowerCore 10000, which had about 7100mAh. However, take into consideration that the RAVPower 10050mAh is quite a bit cheaper than the PowerCore 10000. Which scores him some points in my book.
The RAVPower 10050mAh deluxe also recharges quite fast when it’s empty with a 2A wall charger and takes about 5 hours, which is roughly the same as the PowerCore 10000. This is only logical though as they have almost an equal amount of battery capacity and input amperage.
One thing that strikes me as a bit odd is that RAVPower has two identical looking products on their site with one device being this 10050mAh and the other being rated at 7800mAh. They both look like the exact same powerbank so I’ve got a feeling that these are the exact same devices, but let’s not speculate.
Conclusion
I’m very pleased about the RAVPower Deluxe power bank and it’s such a compact, well constructed and valuable device that it’s odd how low priced it is. It’s quite a bit cheaper than the equally great Anker PowerCore 10000, but unlike that one, this RAVPower 10050 Deluxe actually supports pass through charging. It should be noted however that some people have complained about the durability of the product, saying it starts to show weird behaviour after a year of use, including weird sounds from within the unit. We have not noticed anything as such yet, but will surely report back here if it does. But that aside, if you’re looking for a portable pocket power bank with great value, this is by far one of the best picks on the market.
