Jackery, one of the most highly sought brands when it comes to power banks, is incredibly popular on Amazon and their best portable chargers have thousands of positive customer reviews. We thought it was finally time to check out one of their best power banks to date – the Jackery Giant+ Premium 12000mAh – in this review.
Design and Portability

To start off, the unboxing experience of the Jackery Giant+ is one of the best ones we’ve had so far. It comes in a beautiful white Jackery branded package. The power bank sits in a metal casing and comes with some extras like a cool looking “thank you” graphic note, a nice user guide, warranty terms, and of course a charging cable to charge the powerbank. This cable is longer than most others we’ve seen and gives the power bank more reach when charging it.
The power bank itself is also not too shabby. The device is incredibly well constructed and its aluminum casing feels sturdy and made of great quality. The Jackery Giant+ Premium feels like it could easily survive a couple of drops on the floor. Unlike some power banks made of cheaper materials like the Aukey 10000 Pocket Portable Charger.
Unlike the name implies, the Jackery Giant+ Premium isn’t that much of a giant. Well, it’s pretty thick and won’t fit in a normal pocket, but it’s actually smaller than most 12000mAh power banks we’ve reviewed. It measures at only 3.1 x 4.3 inches and is shorter than the average smartphone. However, at 0.8 inches thick, it’s thicker than most power banks and takes up more space than you would think. Its portability is still great though. It fits just fine in any purse, backpack, handbag, or carry pouch.
Features
The Jackery Giant+ has two charging ports so you can charge devices simultaneously. One of these is for tablets and the other for small devices like your phone. Like mentioned above, the cable that comes with the power bank is longer than most and gives it more mobility when charging the power bank. The device has three LED battery indicators that show how much charge is left in the power bank. However, it would’ve been better if there were at least four or five LED’s. With only three LED’s the increments are just too big. For example, if there are two LEDs on, it means you could have between 33% and 66% charge left, which is just too big of a gap and leaves you guessing.
Something we rarely see in power banks is pass-through charging. This simply means charging a device in the power bank, while the power bank is also plugged and being charged itself. Jackery’s devices – including this Jackery Giant+ Premium 12000 – support pass through charging. It’s a great feature and saves you a lot of time, as you now don’t have to wait for your power bank to be charged before you can charge your phone.
Not unimportant, are the safety features of the Jackery Giant+ Premium 12000. It comes with great protection features like overvoltage, overcurrent, short circuit, overcharge and incorrect charger protection. All of these safeguards make the Jackery Giant+ Premium an extremely reliable device and you won’t have to worry about any damage.
As expected, the power bank also has a flashlight function. The flashlight on this power bank actually has two LED bulbs, so it’s surprisingly bright for such a small device.
Power
The Jackery Giant+ Premium 12000 is equipped with four premium Panasonic battery cells that make up a total of 12000mAh. Keep in mind that this is the maximum output and in practice some power is always lost when charging. This means that the actual power capacity sits around 8500mAh. This applies to every power bank brand though, so it’s not unusual. It has enough power to charge your average smartphone three to four times, and your tablet once. It fails to fully juice an iPad 4 but comes close with about 19% left to full charge.
Like mentioned before it has two charging ports with 1A and 2.1A respectively. It charges pretty quick but nothing out of the ordinary. Thanks to the pass-through charging feature, you can charge your phone and tablet while the power bank itself is also charging. A great advantage, as you now don’t have to wait for the power bank to fully charge before being able to charge your devices. The power bank takes around 8 hours to charge itself so you’re saving an enormous amount of time.
Conclusion
What’s in a name? And no, i’m not talking about Giant here, but the Premium part. The Jackery Giant+ Premium 12000 really is a premium device made of top notch material, and has the power and features to rightfully be named one of the best portable chargers in its price category.
