Summary
The Jackery Bolt 6000mAh is a great compact choice if you own both an iOS and an Android device. The integrated charging cables provide you with ease of use and the third USB output allows for simultaneous charging of three devices. It's supposedly Apple MFI certified, but ironically a few users experienced compatibility issues with some Apple devices. I've not experienced any of this myself and nonetheless it's still a great product. The Jackery Bolt is simply a great value power bank with incredible usability.
- Integrated micro-USB and Lightning cable prevents cable clutter
- Third output allows for charging of up to three devices
- Allows pass-through charging
- Very compact for a device with triple output
- Integrated cable head might not fit in your phone if you have a bulky phone case, you need to take the phone case of your phone to charge it
- Ironically has compatibility issues with some Apple devices
Ever since we reviewed the Jackery Bar Premium we’ve been big fans of Jackery and their beautifully aesthetic powerbanks. Today we’ll be taking a look at a newer version of the Jackery Bar: the Jackery Bolt 6000mAh Power Bank.
Design and Portability
First thing noticeable about the Jackery Bolt is that it’s not in Jackery’s signature orange color. It’s only available in matte black. However, as much as I love the signature orange color, this one looks very sleek and stylish as well. It also has an aluminum casing that feels very sturdy to the touch. And the aluminum casing on Jackery devices not only feel robust, but it also gives the powerbank a premium look.
The power bank is slightly taller than the Jackery Bar, but still remarkably compact and easily suited for your pocket. It measures 4.3 x 1.9 x 0.9 inches, which is half the width of an average smartphone, and ¾ the length. It’s also very lightweight. It’s only about 5 ounces, so just slightly heavier than an iPhone 6.
Features
A unique feature which we’ve not seen before is that the Jackery Bolt has two integrated charging cables: a micro-USB cable and a Lightning cable to charge iPhones. It also has a USB output so you can charge a third device (provided that you have your own cable). This means you can charge up to a whopping three devices simultaneously. The foldable cables can be easily slid in and out of the jackery bar and stay firmly in place when you fold them back in. A small downside is that the cable heads are quite bulky. It probably won’t fit in your phone if you have a thick phone case surrounding the input area. You’ll have to take the phone out of its case to be able to put the cable in it. If you don’t have a phone case it’s not really an issue though.
Also, the Jackery Bolt supports pass-through charging. Which means you can charge devices even when the powerbank is being charged. You can plug in the powerbank at night with three mobile devices in it, and when you wake up all three devices will be charged, including the powerbank itself! This is an extremely handy feature that we don’t see on powerbanks enough. It can save you a lot of time, and thanks to the integrated cables on the Jackery Bolt, it also saves you the clutter of using separate cables.
The Jackery Bolt is also equipped with a round LED flashlight for emergencies. It won’t light up the entire room, but can help you out whenever you need a small light and others in the room are sleeping for example.
Power
The Jackery Bolt 6000mAh does not hold a significant capacity, but for its size 6000 mAh is very respectable. It has just enough to charge an average smartphone – like an iPhone 6 – twice. If you’re charging three smartphones at once, one of them won’t be charged to full battery. However, if you charge two smartphones at once, they’ll both be easily charged. Also, if you’re charging three devices simultaneously during pass-through charging, they’ll all be charged fully because you have an endless supply of current from the wall.
The powerbank charges your devices fairly quickly thanks to its strong maximum output of 2.4A and takes about one and a half hours to fully charge an iPhone 6. You can even charge tablets if you want. You won’t be able to fully charge it, but it can easily give about 30 – 40% of charge to a tablet in under three hours if you need it to.
The recharge speed of the Jackery Bolt is also fairly quick. The input has 2A, which means charging the powerbank only takes about 4 hours.
Conclusion
The Jackery Bolt doesn’t have a huge capacity but brings some unique features to the table that we’ve never seen before. The foldable lightning and micro-USB cables are extremely convenient and it keeps your bag from being cluttered with extra cables, and the pass through charging makes it possible to charge three mobile devices simultaneously, while the powerbank itself is charging as well. The Jackery Bolt might be slightly more expensive than other 6000 mAh powerbanks, but the portability and handy features make it well worth its higher price tag.
