Summary
A decent power bank, but there's lots of better alternatives available with similar power, like the Lumina 15000mAh Power Bank and Anker PowerCore 10000.
- Very convenient LED screen with battery percentage
- Not expensive
- Heavy and bulky
- Doesn’t back up it’s advertised battery capacity and “blazing charge times”
- The provided USB cable is of questionable quality
Crave is a brand that we keep seeing pop up when looking for new power banks to review. We thought it was time to review their most popular unit: the Crave Travel Pro 13000mAh Ultra-High density Power Bank.
Design and Portability
The Crave Travel Pro power bank is advertised as an ideal power bank to travel with. It’s supposedly compact and lightweight, and fits in your purse easily. However, at first glance, it doesn’t look that compact. It’s about the length of a smartphone, but wider and much thicker. It’s not huge by any means, but the thickness of this power bank makes it very bulky and we’ve even seen 20000mAh power banks that were thinner than this one.
It measures 4.7 x 2.8 inches and is about 1 inch thick. The package says it weighs 6.9 ounces, but it feels much heavier than that and is too heavy for a travel power bank if I’m being honest. After weighing it it turns out to be almost a pound, weighing in at 0.85 lbs. If you’re looking for a travel power bank that fits in your pocket, this Crave TravelPro is definitely not the best choice and the small 5200mAh version might be a better pick. It does come with a nice travel pouch though and fits in a medium sized purse or backpack.
The design of the powerbank looks nice with its rounded edge making it look almost the shape of an iPhone. The front of the powerbank is shiny black and has the Crave logo stamped on it which looks pretty good. The sides are light silver of color and the overall look of the powerbank is very decent.
Features
The Crave Travelpro has an LED battery percentage indicator that shows exactly how much charge is still left in the powerbank. This is a feature I really like to see on powerbanks and is much more useful than standard light battery indicators.
It has two USB charge ports so you can simultaneously charge two devices. One port is for tablets and is 2.1A, the other one is 1A and is suited for smaller devices like smartphones and digital camera’s. The power button on the side can be used to start charging. The device package also says it has smart protection for charge and discharge. However, it’s not clear if it also has other safety features like overcurrent and short circuit protection. These are crucial features that definitely need to be included in a power bank and it’s too bad that Crave isn’t more clear about this.
Power
The battery capacity of the Crave Travel Pro is 13000mAh. Which would theoretically charge an average smartphone about three or four times. However, it is not able to charge a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 three times. A Galaxy Note battery has 3250mAh, so in reality the Crave TravelPro seems to barely hit 9000mAh. This is not unusual for powerbanks though, and when calculating voltage conversion and voltage heat this seems about accurate. However, quality power banks like the Aukey PB-N15 and the Villain Power Bank provide much more power efficiency for a similar price so it’s unfortunate to see such a low efficiency on this Crave Travel Pro.
Thanks to its double charging ports you can charge two devices simultaneously. The downside is that one is dedicated for tablets and the other for smartphones, which means that charging two tablets simultaneously is not an option, since there is only one port that provides more than 2A.
The input amperage is only 1.6A, which results in very slow recharge times. It takes about 14 hours to fully charge the powerbank when it’s empty.
Conclusion
I wanted to like the Crave TravelPro power bank because it looks pretty slick, but it just doesn’t hold up against others at this price point. The Crave TravelPro is bulky, charges slow, and doesn’t back up its advertised power capacity. The battery percentage indicator is a nice feature, but there are just so many better power banks to choose from. For example the Lumina 15000mAh Power Bank, Jackery Giant+ Premium, RAVPower 16750mAh and Dulla M50000 are all significantly better options to travel with than this one.
