Aukey has a nice lineup of portable chargers that are relatively cheap compared to other brands with similar features. Let’s take a look at the Aukey 10,000 Dual USB Pocket Portable Charger.
First thing you’ll notice about the Aukey 10,000 Pocket Portable Charger is that it’s shaped like a square instead of the rectangle shaped power banks we normally see. This allows the design to be thinner, and is just the right size to fit in your back pocket, but it’s still a tiny bit oversized for your front pocket. It measures 3.54 inch x 3.15 inch and is 0.87 inch thick. It might not be as comfortable in your pocket as the smaller version – the Aukey 5,000, but the Aukey 10,000 is still small enough to not be a nuisance when walking around with it.
The design of the Aukey 10,000 Pocket charger is quite nice, it’s pleasing to the eye and while not the most beautiful powerbank we’ve seen, it definitely does alright for itself in the looks area. The casing on the other hand doesn’t look and feel like the best quality and it’s made of generic plastic. A simple portable charger doesn’t need to be made of titanium, but the Aukey 10,000 Portable Charger just feels like it could break a little too easily. It would’ve been nice if it had a rubber grip like the Xtorm Power bank 6000 Air has for example.
The Aukey 10,000 Portable Charger has 4 blue LED battery indicators and a flashlight surrounded by 2 USB outlets. Next to the outlets there is one lightning bolt and 2 lightning bolts respectively. The double lightning bolt outlet is the 2.1A outlet, which charges faster and is suitable for larger devices like iPads and other tablets too. The single lightning bolt is a 1A outlet and charges at a slower rate. On the side of the device is the input to charge the Device itself. The USB cable that comes with it is a foot long, which gives the powerbank some reach and mobility when charging itself, but it would’ve been nice if it was just a bit longer.
The Aukey 10,000 Portable Charger has a built in safeguard to prevent overcharging, overcurrent and overheating your batteries. Which is a great feature which we’ve also seen in other quality powerbanks like the TP-Link TL-PB10400.
Now onto the power of the portable charger. Like the name indicates the Aukey 10,000 has a power capacity of 10,000 mAh, enough to give your iPhone 6 or any other smartphone up to about 3 charges.
Like mentioned before it has a double lightning bolt outlet and a single lightning bolt outlet. The double lightning bolt outlet is the 2.1A slot, which charges your phone significantly faster or can be used to charge large devices like a tablet. The other outlet – the single lightning bolt slot – has an amperage of 1 and is only suitable for smartphones or other small devices like a smartwatch. Simultaneously charging devices is an option, but keep in mind that the device charges in the 1A outlet will take a lot slower to fully charge than the device in the other outlet.
A big flaw of the Aukey 10,000 Pocket Portable Charger is that it takes about 8 hours to fully charge itself. You’ll have to charge it way ahead before leaving, otherwise you could just be left with a half full powerbank.
Altogether the Aukey 10,000 Pocket Portable Charger is a great choice for the money. While the plastic casing could use some improvement, the portable charger itself does exactly what it should do and can give about any phone 3 full charges and one full tablet thanks to it’s power capacity of 10,000 mAh.
