Summary
Incredibly similar to the Aukey-PB-N15. Just as powerful, good-looking and reliable. Only the Poweradd Pilot X7 is slightly cheaper, which gives it immense value and makes it just that much a greater bang for the buck.
- Great power retention for a 20,000 mAh power bank
- Good looks and practically designed to fit in any bag
- Splendid customer support and warranty from Poweradd
- Immense value
- Heavy
Poweradd has some great power banks on the market. The Poweradd Slim 2 was a very impressive model and we recently recommended it as one of the best powerbanks in the budget segment. Not to mention the incredible customer support that Poweradd provides. Today we’ll be taking a look at a high-powered model in this Poweradd Pilot X7 20,000 mAh External Battery.
Design
After having reviewed dozens of power banks, once in awhile I come across two similar looking power banks from different brands. The reason for this is that almost all powerbanks are manufactured in China, in the same factory areas. Different brands just use different colors and put their own brand name on the same unit, and package them differently. This is likely the case here too. The Poweradd Pilot X7 looks exactly like the Aukey PB-N15 Powerbank we reviewed a couple months ago. Not just a little, it actually has the exact same shell and measurements. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. The Aukey PB-N15 was a fantastic power bank. It’s just a funny observation and goes to show that a lot of power banks are simply the same, just marketed differently.
So, not much can be said about this powerbanks’ design that we haven’t already covered in our Aukey PB-N15 review. The Poweradd Pilot X7 also has a sleek black matte coating and a power button in the middle. The only difference with the Aukey PB-N15 is that this Pilot X7 has a red finish as a secondary color, instead of white. Just like the PB-N15, the Pilot X7 is also quite heavy, and doesn’t feel exceptionally sturdy, but as long as you don’t drop it you’ll be fine. The matte shell is also scratch resistant and doesn’t show fingerprints easily.
Measurements: | 6.1 x 3.1 x 0.88 inches |
Weight: | 440g (1 lbs) |
Features
As for the features, the Pilot X7 has a power button in the middle which can be pressed to show how much juice is left in the tank. This is indicated with the four blue LEDs. The indicator ranges from one blinking light (0 – 10%), to four full lights (90 – 100%).
The two USB ports can be used to charge two devices simultaneously, and thanks to the smart charging ports your device will never be overcharged or short-circuited. The ports don’t work independently though, so charging up two big devices like tablets takes longer then when you would only charge one tablet. It’s a minor flaw. I mean, how many times are you going to charge two tablets at the same time? Two smartphones being charged simultaneously will not be affected by this flaw and will easily charge at normal rate.
The Power bank is also equipped with a flashlight function in the middle of the two USB ports. It’s not particularly bright by any means, but can be helpful in some situations, like when you’re looking for keys etc.
Charging ports: | 2 (2.1A max) |
Safety features: | Overcharge protection, short circuit protection and more |
Compatible with: | iPhone, Android, tablet, digital camera etc. (almost any USB device) |
Pass through charging: | Yes |
Smartports: | Yes |
Battery indication: | 4 LED lights |
Power
Now onto the important part, the power of this beast. It sits at a whopping 20,000 mAh, which means you’ll be using it for a long while before having to charge it up again. Which is great, because charging this power bank to full capacity takes from anywhere between 10 – 20 hours, depending on the wall charger you’re using. I recommend you not to charge this in a pc or laptop, as this can take up to 40 hours, and nope, I’m not joking..
So, 20,000 mAh. What does this mean? It means you can charge your average smartphone up to 6 times, or a regular tablet twice. It can even charge a large tabelt like the iPad Air fully and then some. As you can imagine, that makes this sweet little device perfect for long trips, vacations, or commutes. Thanks to its 2.1A output, it will charge up a phone within 2 hours, and does an excellent job at retaining efficiency thanks to the grade A 18650 battery cells.
Power capacity: | 20,000 mAh |
Total max output: | 3.1A |
Total max input: | 2A |
Time to recharge itself: | 12 – 20 hours (depends on wall charger used) |
Conclusion
In conclusion, this is basically the same unit as the Aukey PB-N15. Same design, same power, even the flashlight is the same. They’re also both fantastic power banks. However, the Poweradd Pilot X7 is actually the cheaper of the two. So If you’re looking for a great powerbank to provide you with multiple charges on the go, without losing retention, the Pilot X7 is easily the better pick and comes highly recommended.
