Lumina is a new brand that we haven’t reviewed before. Their 15000mAh power bank is a very popular one for charging digital cameras, although it is also perfectly capable of charging phones, tablets and other micro USB devices. Let’s take a look at it in this review.
Design and portability
The Lumina 15000mAh Power Bank has a simple black design with function follows form in mind. It’s not fancy looking but has a sleek black casing that shines nicely. The great thing about this power bank is that it’s made of aluminium, something we rarely see in power banks. It feels extremely sturdy and much stronger than plastic power banks. It’s made to last and can probably survive a couple of heavy impact and drops.
The aluminium also makes the charger heavier than most, but it’s still light enough to not be a nuisance when carried around. In terms of size, it’s pretty big compared to others at this power level. The Lumina power bank measures 6.7 x 4.1 x 0.6 inches and is almost the same size as some 20,000mAh power banks we reviewed, like the Anker PowerCore 20100. However, this Lumina power bank is slightly thinner.
If you’re looking for the most compact power bank, this might not be the best option for you. It’s still very much portable and can easily be slid into a handbag, purse or backpack, but is not suited for a jeans pocket. Most power banks at this powerlevel are big though so if you want a smaller one then it’ll likely have less power. The Anker PowerCore 10000 and Aibocn 10000mAh Power Bank are great options if you’re looking for a smaller alternative.
Features
The Lumina Power Bank is equipped with two smartports so you can charge two devices simultaneously, with both ports having a maximum output of 2.4A. The fact that they’re smartports means you can safely charge your devices, as the smartport will adjust to the ideal amperage for the device you’re charging.
An incredibly useful function on this power bank is the battery percentage indicator. The Lumina Power Bank is fitted with a LED screen that shows you exactly how much charge is left in the power bank. This is extremely useful, and much better than the usual four battery light indicators that only show battery charge left in 25% increments. It’s a feature we also saw in the iMuto power bank and Crave Powerbanks and were very pleased by. The Lumina power bank scores major points with this feature.
Power
The Lumina power bank has a battery capacity of 15000mAh. That’s quite a lot, and gives you enough power to charge your average smartphone four times, and tablets at least once. It charges a Samsung Galaxy S5 four times. The Lumina is pretty quick too thanks to the smartports that find the most efficient amperage to charge your device as quickly and safely as possible.
Normally, big capacity power banks take quite a long time to recharge when empty, but the Lumina does comparatively well in this area. Thanks to its 2A input, it only takes about 10 hours to charge when using a 2A wall charger.
Conclusion
The Lumina is a bit expensive compared to others at this level, but well worth its price. It’s made of thick, strong aluminium and is guaranteed to survive heavy wear and tear, it has an incredibly useful battery percentage indicator, a great power capacity and efficiency, and to top it off, has a lifetime warranty label to go with it.
