Summary
What you want a portable charger to be is compact. The IOGear Gearpower GMP10K is not that. It's big, bulky, and heavy and it's not suitable for your pocket. It's a quality power bank and does a great job at charging your devices, but there are better powerbanks without the bloat. If you have no problem with a big power bank the GMP10K is a decent choice. If you do, I'd advise you to look further.
- Enough capacity to charge any average smartphone 3 times
- Dual output so you can charge 2 devices simultaneously
- Safety protection to prevent battery overcharge damage
- Comes with a pouch to carry it in
- AC adapter included
- Big, definitely not the ideal shape you want a portable charger to be and it’s not pocket friendly
- The powerbank takes long to charge again when it’s empty
- Expensive for what you’re getting. There are better power banks for the money

IOGear has been around for a while in the powerbank industry. In this review we’ll be taking a look at the IOGear Gearpower GMP10K 11,000 mAh.
The model is also available in these varying power capacities: 7,000mAh 10,000mAh, 12,000mAh and 16,000mAh.
Design & portability
Powerbanks, also known as portable chargers, should logically be portable. The IOGear GearPower GMP10K is still portable, but definitely not as much as you’d want a powerbank to be. It’s quite bulky and measures at 6.15 x 8.5 x 2.75 inch and weighs almost 300 grams. If you’re looking for a charger to be as portable as possible, this is definitely not the best portable charger for you. It will fit in a bag, but it’s way too big to carry in your pocket. It does however come with a nice little pouch where you can carry it in.
The design of the IOGear GearPower is not too shabby and very nice to look at. It’s silver on the side and has a smooth white casing with a brushed metal button in the middle. This button can be pressed to check how much battery charge is still left in the charger, which it indicates with a green blinking battery light.
The 16,000 mAh version – the IOGear GearPower GMP16K – is also available in black, but this GMP10K is only available in white color.
Features
Like mentioned above the IOGear GearPower comes with a pouch to carry it with you. You’ll definitely need it as it’s far too big to carry in your jacket or pants’ pocket.
The included USB cable to charge the powerbank with is long and makes it more convenient to charge the power bank. What’s also included – something we don’t see included enough with powerbanks – is an AC adapter. Thank goodness you don’t have to charge the power bank via PC or laptop. Because trust me, that takes very long. With the adapter you can just plug the USB in it and charge the power bank through an AC socket. This still takes up to 12 hours but it’s better than having to charge it via PC.
Thanks to the double output you can charge 2 devices simultaneously, and both these outputs have built-in protection for your battery so it doesn’t overcharge or overheat. This is a very useful feature and prevents your devices from damage.
Power
Now onto the most important part: the power! It’s power is not bad, not great, but right in the middle. For it’s price tag you’d expect it to have more, as there are powerbanks in the same price range with more than 20,000 mAh capacity. The GearPower GMP10K has a power capacity of 11,000 mAh, which is enough to charge an average smartphone like an iPhone 6 right about 3 times, and a bigger smartphone 1.5 to 2 times. It’s good, but not great.
There are 2 slots on the powerbank, one is a 1A output, the other is a 2.1A output. The 2.1A output charges faster and can also be used to charge bigger devices like tablets, so you can charge a smartphone and a tablet at the same time. Keep in mind that tablets have a large battery capacity and I’d recommend to choose a stronger powerbank like the Anker Powercore 20,100 if you’ll solely be using it for tablet charging. Nonetheless, the GearPower GMP10K is great at charging just smartphones and other small devices and does a pretty quick job at it.
Conclusion
The IOGear Gearpower 11,000 mAh GMP10K, while not the most portable of all powerbanks, does what it’s supposed to do. It can be used to charge your phone, camera, smartwatch or even tablet, and does it wherever you want it. However, there are better options to choose from in it’s price range. There are cheaper power banks that are better, and there are same price power banks that are way better. If you’re really digging the style of this particular powerbank, then I’m not stopping you, but if you’re looking for the best power bank for the money, this is not the greatest choice.
