Innogie – which I’m guessing is a portmanteau of “innovative” and “energie” – is a power bank brand known for their awesomely designed portable chargers. In this review, we’ll be taking a look at one of their most popular products: the Innogie JA Alien Power 10000 Power Bank.
Design and Portability
At first glance, the power bank’s shape and design reminds me a bit of an AXE deodorant can. It’s made of black aluminum and the top is rounded with a small protrusion. However, when turned on, a combination of red and blue LED’s appear and show the shape of a cool Alien head on top, hence its name “AlienPower”. It looks pretty awesome and might just be one of the coolest power bank designs I’ve seen so far. It really distinguishes itself from the usual boringly designed power banks.
The power bank is almost cylinder shaped and therefore too oddly shaped to fit in your pocket. It measures at 4 x 2.2 inches and is 1.6 inches thick, which is twice as thick as the average power bank we’ve reviewed. It’s also pretty heavy for its size. If you’re looking for a power bank to fit in your pocket, this is definitely not the right choice. However, you can easily slide it into your bag or a small pouch as the device is pretty mobile and shorter than a smartphone.
As I mentioned, it’s made out of aluminum; aircraft aluminum to be exact. It feels very sturdy and dropping it barely puts a scratch on it. The device is very well constructed and feels made to last through some hard times. I don’t know about you, but I’m clumsy and always drop portable devices. So robustness is an important factor to me in a power bank. I’m glad Innogie considered people like me using it when designing this gadget.
Features
Just because it looks awesome, doesn’t mean it’s packed with features. The Innogie JA AlienPower 10000 is a simple power bank equipped with only the most important features. The device has four blue LED battery indicators on top of the Alien head so you can see how much juice is left in the power bank, and it has two charging ports with 2.4A and 2A output respectively. So you can charge both your tablet and phone at the same time, or any other micro USB device you want.
These charging ports are both “smart ports”, like we also saw in the Anker PowerCore 10000 and the RAVPower 16750. What this means is that the port automatically adjusts its output to the device you’re charging, and thus prevents your battery life from shortening in the long run. It also makes sure your device gets charged as quickly as possible.
A minor flaw about the device is that the charging ports are on the bottom of the power bank. Which means you can’t stand it up straight if there are devices being charged in it. You’ll have to put it on its side, but this makes it vulnerable to rolling and could just roll of your table or surface.
Another thing, the charging cable that comes with it to charge the powerbank is only a foot long. You’ll have to charge the powerbank very close to the wall, which is not very convenient. But you can just use the longer micro-USB cable that likely came with your phone or tablet, so it’s not that big a deal.
Power
The Innogie JA Alien Power has an impressive power capacity of 10,400 mAh. This will give your average phone three-ish charges, or your tablet one or two. It charges a Galaxy S8 two and a half times. Not bad at all, especially considering how cheap the power bank is. There are many other power banks in its price range that offer similar power capacity, like the KMASHI MP816 and Aibocn Power Bank 10,000. These are however not as quality-made as the Innogie JA AlienPower is. In terms of build quality, I’d recommend the Innogie device over those two. Although the two previously mentioned are much more practically shaped for a power bank and fit in your pocket easier.
As mentioned, it has a 2.1A and a 2.4A smartport. These are programmed to charge your devices as efficiently as possible. It takes under two hours to fully charge a Galaxy S8, which is fairly quick.
Conclusion
There are some flaws to this device, mainly its cylinder shape and weight that make it less portable than most power banks. However, the Innogie JA Alien 10000 Portable Charger is of quality build and has an impressive power capacity. Not to mention it’s one of the coolest looking power banks we’ve come across. If you’re looking for the most compact powerbank, this is not the best option. If you’re looking for an awesome looking portable charger with long lasting power, the Innogie JA Alienpower is a great choice.
